PRP for Skin Rejuvenation
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can be beneficial for skin rejuvenation. PRP consists of concentrated platelets derived from your own blood, which contains many growth factors and stem cells. It has been used for decades in the fields of oral surgery, sports medicine and orthopedics because of its potential to regenerate tissue and promote wound healing. At Northwest Dermatology Institute, PRP is used in conjunction with microneedling and Fraxel for optimal cosmetic results including improved healing and tissue regeneration.
PRP requires a simple blood draw from the arm. The blood is spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelet rich layer from the rest of the blood. The PRP is used as a glide in microneedling. It is also placed on the skin after treatment with Fraxel or microneedling for approximately 8-12 hours. Since the platelet rich plasma is high in stem cells and many growth factors it helps the skin to regenerate, boosts collagen production, tightens skin and aides in cell turnover.
